From Barbados to Denmark: Strengthening the Path to Deployment

Barbadian delegation visit to Denmark marks another important step in Wavepiston’s growing partnership with Barbados

Following our recent visits to Barbados, we were pleased to welcome an esteemed delegation from the island to Denmark, bringing together government officials, the Coastal Zonal Maritime Authority (CZMU) and our partners at Export Barbados (BIDC).

The visit provided an opportunity to confirm our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), while bringing the key organisations involved in future deployment closer together. During their time in Denmark, the delegation met with Wavepiston’s team at our marvellous Elsinore Castle location. The Bajan delegation also visited key industry organisations and research institutions, exploring opportunities for collaboration and sharing knowledge around innovation, wave energy, desalination and the wider blue economy.

The participation of the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU), which plays a key role in Barbados’ permitting processes, was particularly important. Understanding the regulatory requirements and involving the relevant authorities early is an essential part of developing a successful project.

The visit also reinforced the importance of our partnership with Export Barbados (BIDC) and the wider Barbadian stakeholder community. Together, we are working to understand local needs, build the right relationships and advance the conditions for future deployment.

For Wavepiston, this is what commercialisation looks like: not just developing technology, but developing projects together with the people and organisations who will make them possible.

With the MoU confirmed and engagement continuing on both sides of the Atlantic, the path from partnership to project is becoming increasingly tangible.
