Wavepiston signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Export Barbados (BIDC).

Wavepiston strengthens its partnership with the government of Barbados.

We are pleased to share that Wavepiston has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Export Barbados (BIDC) Barbados Investment Development Corporation. This marks an important step forward in our journey towards commercial deployment in the Caribbean and positioning Barbados as the regional light-house of wave energy.

This MoU builds directly on solid relations that have been formed under the completed pre-feasibility study for Wave Energy in Barbados (Project WEB) and signals a clear move towards a commercial pilot wave energy project.

We are moving from studies to action:
– Transitioning from feasibility to project development
– Exploring the integration of desalinated water alongside renewable energy
– Laying the groundwork to kick off tangible work in the coming period

Together with Export Barbados (BIDC), we look forward to consolidating this partnership and advancing the country’s net zero aspirations.

Beyond clean energy, this partnership has a broader ambition:

  • Establishing Barbados as a regional hub for wave energy
  • Upskilling local labour and increasing youth employment
  • Supporting long-term energy resilience across the Caribbean

By developing local capabilities alongside infrastructure, we aim to ensure that wave energy delivers lasting economic and social value, not just clean power.

We are excited about what lies ahead and continue to execute on our promise to bring wave energy to the world.
